Monsena - RovinjMonsena is a famous tourist resort located next to Rovinj on Croatian coast. It's not far away from our home, so we decided to spend three weeks in their camp in September 2002. We took the high way from Ljubljana to Kozina, and then via C(rni Kal and Buzet. In Buzet, we took the road to Motovun and drove along the valley of the Mirna river. At the end of the valley there is a crossway where we turned left. Rovinj was just 34 km away. We were in Monsena five times before, so we knew the resort pretty well. This time was our first time in their autocamp. We were accommodated in bungalows before. There are some restaurants and a market in Monsena. Service is not the best, and the market was almost empty in the middle of September! But there are many things to do for fun and recreation, like playing tennis, minigolf, volleyball, taking diving classes. You can borrow a boat or a scooter, but unfortunately prizes are very high. Camping prizes are not high. We paid less then 20 Euros a day for a tent, a car and two persons (in the year 2002). There were mostly people from Germany, Slovenia, Austria and Italy in the camp. Comparing with years before, there were less guests from Czech republic and Slovakia. We recommend to not to do shoppings in Monsena. There are many markets and restaurants not far away where you can buy cheaper and better food and other stuff. Rovinj is only few minutes of drive away and there you can get everything you need. Peasants all around sell pretty good wine and fruit. We want to warn you about phone calls from Monsena. You can do calls to everywhere from the reception, but prizes there are enormous. It is much cheaper to use cell phones or the post office in Rovinj. Spending vacations in Monsena is really pleasant in spite of all imperfections. Nature is wonderful. The coast is large and rocky, and when it gets too hot, you can lie down in the shadow under the trees. Valalta is a naturist centre five kilometers away from Monsena. You can go there on foot all along the beach and you don't need any clothes. All you need is a pair of trainers or sandals, because rocks are very sharp on many places. Monsena is well known for its tolerant visitors. People are very open-minded, no matter what their sexual orientation is. The beach is very long and somehow partitioned. The main part around the swimming pool and to the pier is a typical family beach. Further toward Valalta you go, more differences you notice. There are swingers, exhibitionists and at the end of the beach gays take some place. People are not bothered with those differences, it seems like they are tolerant to all people, no matter what their specialities are. They don't need any "moral" principles or advices from Christians or hedonists to accept and respect other people. Unfortunately there are some people who don't fit well in naturist camps. The word is about local voyeurs. They can be real pests and they stalk people all the time. It's hard to believe that camp managers don't do something to protect their guests. Sometimes it's hard to feel very comfortable as you are followed where ever you go. Voyeurs stalk couples and single women. Sometimes they stay hidden and you can notice just movings and shadows. We believe that managers in Monsena and Rovinj should do something to make their guests more comfortable. It shouldn't be too hard as voyeurs are mostly not tourists, but men from Rovinj and nearby towns. They are easily recognized for number plates on their cars and for their language. But we noticed that number of voyeurs has even increased in last few years. There are many short excursions from Rovinj. We visited Pazin, an interesting small town in the centre of Istra peninsula. Pula is known for its amphitheater and it's the biggest Istrian town. There's a very nice little church called St. Foka on the way between Rovinj and Pula. The church is known for its healing energies, so it's visited by many sick people or people who are interested in alternative medicine. Energies are well felt, the most powerful energies are at entrance and inside the church around the altar. Rovinj is probably one of the most beautiful Croatian towns. The oldest buildings were built in Roman age. You can take a boat trip from Rovinj to Lim Fjord, where were shot many western movies. We did a short trip to Vodnjan, and then through inland to Marcana and Duga uvala. There is a nice tourist resort too, but unfortunately not FKK. We took a look of Raa bay, where nature was really beautiful, but unfortunately almost destroyed by stone-pit now. There is a beautiful view from the top of the bay. We found a little church there and we took some naughty pictures too. Motovun is also a very nice small town. It's known for its cultural performances and for tartuffes, mushrooms known as aphrodisiac. If you buy some, you will remember naturist beaches around Rovinj very well. {textbelw}
